ADVANCED MICROSONIC DENTAL TECHNOLOGY TO CLEAN TEETH

ADVANCED MICROSONIC DENTAL TECHNOLOGY TO CLEAN TEETH

Our mouths contain many different types of organisms like bacteria and viruses, and these can be broken down into hundreds of different types of species. The majority of bacteria in the mouth are not harmful, are beneficial to proper digestion of food, and keep the bad bacteria in check. It's this "bad bacteria" that's responsible for the onset of infections or disease, like dental decay, periodontal disease (gum disease), and mouth odor. Plaque bacteria thrives in the warm, moist environment of the mouth, adhering to tooth surfaces above and below the gumline, and on the surface of the tongue. You may not know that plaque reproduces constantly, is a living microorganism, and forms complex colonies called biofilm. It's this sticky matrix of biofilm that needs to be disrupted and eliminated from the mouth to allow for a healthy condition.

The best option non-surgical treatment of periodontal disease is by disruption of biofilm from the mouth is through the administration of an ultrasonic instrument by a dental professional. Ultrasonic instrumentation has been used in dentistry for over half a century, and this technology has been refined recently with the development of microsonics. A light water pressure combined with acoustic turbulence from the microsonics disrupts plaque biofilm, destroys bacteria from below the gumline, and flushes debris out of the gums. Microsonics are the preferred technique over the "scraping" that patients experience from hand instrumentation because they are more efficient at removing bacteria, are less traumatic to the gum tissue, and remove less tooth structure.

Our office has employed microsonics for cleaning teeth for many years, with most patients choosing this method over traditional hand scaling. During all dental procedures you may request our new satellite radio headphones to minimize any noise, as well as enjoy the back massager our chair provides. Please call our office at (713) 668-2289 to schedule an appointment or ask any questions you may have. Dr. Konig has special interest in overall dental health and is a Houston Cosmetic Dentist and Houston TMJ Dentist.
