TMJ and Smile Rejuvination
This patient presented with concern about the
worn teeth, receding gums, and jaw pain. To treat a case like this, the first step is to find the comfortable jaw position, obtain stabilization of the jaw joints (correct the TMJ problems and
TMJ pain)and then restore the teeth as indicated for function and or esthetics. Not all TMJ cases require restorative care.
Neuromuscular denistry involves looking beyone the teeth and to consider the muscles, nerves , and joints. Why would someone restore the teeth to the same position that is causing pain and broken, worn teeth?
Sophisticated computer equipment allows us, along with clinical examination to determine the type of bite problem that our patients have. Depending on the severity of the problem, what type of treatment is indicated.
This case has been restored to the corrected jaw posture following bite management treatment and the patient is totally asymptomatic and has a beautiful smile.
On the cosmetic side, note the health of gums around all the restorative care. Meticulous attention to detail and not placing the
porcelain veneers and crowns under the gums allows for better long term gum health. The dental work is all metal-free. This can be done in this manner as neuromuscular dentistry allows us to build the bite without shearing forces.
Esthetically, the shapes, contour, and color were designed to create a natural and yet attractive smile.
