The Importance of the Scan and Scan Appliance for Implant Dentistry
The Importance of the Scan and Scan Appliance for Implant Dentistry
One of the fastest growing areas in implant dentistry is the use of the CT scan for treatment planning and implant placement. It is critical for the success of most cases and is rapidly becoming the standard of care in dentistry.
We used to have guess what how much bone would be present when doing surgery for implant placement as all the films we had were only 2 dimensional. With the advent of the CT Scan such as the ICAT scan, we can now see the bone and critical structures in 3 Dimensions.
For our patients, it translates to better esthetic results, more accurate implant placement and usually less surgical trauma as we know what we are going to see under the gums.
In overview, digital treatment planning for dental implants is here and is quickly gaining popularity.
As a restorative implant dentist, this allows me to plan our cases from the beginning with the final results (crowns, bridges, dentures…etc) in mind. You can visit our website photos to see the amazing results that can be achieved with proper scan planning from single teeth to multiple teeth and even full mouth implants.
